BEFORE:
Flickr user and professional systems administrator Cloned Milkmen recently posted a number of high-quality, highly instructive photos of a rack cabling redesign he’d conducted at the job site.

Of the above tangle, the photographically inclined sys admin explains, "This is a giant mess that evolved over a series of years. It is nearly impossible to trace the cables in the rack, hard to add new connections, difficult to audit the wiring. What would happen if one of the switches failed and had to be replaced? We'd have to take down the entire system!"

"After we rewired the closet," continues sys admin Cloned Milkmen, "Notice that there is less density in the right-hand side of the rack. Switch interconnects are separate from the other wires. Different networks use different colors of wires. Wires are bundled nicely and spaced at regular intervals."
